Lost Thy Salvation? – 366

https://youtu.be/-4aAqdbxh50

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

2 Corinthians 5:17, “…if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” Furthermore, these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself – through Christ – and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ, Father — Son, reconciling the world to Himself, not counting our wrongdoings against us.…

Salvation is God at work! Crafted by the Father and Son, it is far too important, and too impossible, for man to play a part. Remember the covenant God made with Abraham in Genesis 15? A smoking oven and flaming torch passed between the split animal sacrifice while Abraham — slept. We believe the Good News — share it with others — but salvation is God’s business. Acts 16:31.

Within Protestantism there are two main theological positions: Arminianism – Baptists and Methodists and others; and Calvinism — Presbyterianism and others. Both from the 16th century. Jacobus Arminius I understand was a pretty good kid. And for him there was nothing much to repent of. He simply embraced Jesus as His savior. It was easy then to think that just as easily a person could walk away from Jesus and ‘lose’ their salvation. And need to get saved again – and again.

John Calvin on the other hand I understand was a rotten reprobate. When he got saved he saw it as a divine act of God overcoming all his rebellion. Out of his experience came doctrines of predestination and of God’s absolute sovereignty in the salvation of the human soul.

It’s no wonder their hugely different salvation experiences led to variances in theology. And extremes. Both agree it is a God thing, that we do not save ourselves. But can we lose it?

What do we believe at Hank’s Place? We believe Ephesians 2:5-8, Colossians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 5:17, and more. We’ve been made us alive together with Christ (by grace), raised up with Him, and seated with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, by grace. Christ has been placed in us, us placed in Christ. Translated out of darkness into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Transformed into new creations. When? When we put our trust, our faith, in Jesus as our Savior, and not ourselves.

If you slip up, mess up, will God un-translate you? Un-transform you? Toss you out of Christ? Christ leave you? My dear friend, you know the answer to that. Backslidden perhaps? Then remember who you really are. Stir up that faith within you, enter that throne room of grace (Heb 4:16) for mercy and grace to help — you are still His child. Throw off that entangling cloak of dark deeds today — and COME ALIVE!

It’s Better—Believing – 365

https://youtu.be/aHUnOdSDl1w

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

Jesus first ‘official’ ministry was in His home town. It’s found in Luke 4:18-19, where Jesus reads from Isaiah 61:1-2. The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me — to give good news to the poor — release to captives — recovery of sight to the blind — setting free the oppressed — and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.

Then He added, “TODAY this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Declaring HE was the ‘favorable year of the Lord’ that Jubilee year. In Jesus EVERY year is our Jubilee Year my friend. Our debts are canceled in Jesus. Our burdens lifted in Jesus. Life worth really living is restored! Hopes and dreams come alive again. All in Jesus – believe it. Receive it.

His hometown didn’t believe it, and when He told them how hard of hearing they were – they were filled with rage and ready to kill Him. There’s a message there.

But I want to point out Isaiah 61:3 where the prophet declares those who benefit from all this will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting OF THE LORD, that HE may be glorified. Oaks. Mighty oaks. Standing firm in any storm. Steadfast. Immovable. Oaks of Righteousness. Picture yourself as one of those dear friend, because that is who you really are!

Romans 3:9 declares no one is righteous on their own. However good our best efforts may be, they are never good enough. We all need a Savior. Thank God for JESUS. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says of Him, “He (the Father) made Him who knew no sin (Jesus), to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become (in other words the transformation is effected) the righteousness of God in Him.” Jesus became our sin offering, and the One who has carried our sin away. Now we are eternally the righteousness of God.

Perfectly perfect. Acceptable to God. Approved before God. Always at the receiving end of blessings. Favor. Mercy. Lovingkindness. Grace. And more. When this truth becomes TRUTH in our inner being and mind, our lives will change – significantly.

Many Christians, even pastors and missionaries, have yet to understand this. Why? Because they are mixing the 2 covenants together. Law and Grace. Maybe you are too. Likely you are. If you think God is kinda disapproving of you, kind of tolerating you, then you are.

Maybe you rejoice that God will bless you. But only if you do all the right things. That He will prosper you financially, but only if you tithe. That you will stay healthy. But only if you keep making those positive confessions. Rebuking sickness. And on and on. Grace and Law, Law and Grace. Depressing and making it difficult to receive all your Father has to give you.

God has sworn by Himself (Hebrews 6:13-14) to bless those who believe in Him. Today: reject the performance approach. Believe. Receive. Standing firm in Him. We have HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS as we stand before the Father. Consider these things — and COME ALIVE!

Finding Encouragement – 364

https://youtu.be/YZ0moST10es

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

Here at Hank’s Place you can come out of the rain of judgment. You can get away from the rat race — of trying to outdo your co-worker. There are no Jones to keep up with, hallelujah!

At Hank’s Place, each of us is accepted in the beloved. Eph 1:6. The Beloved of course is Jesus our Savior. His blood has covered our failures and inadequacies before the Father. His blood lives. What’s even more amazing is He has carried our transgressions away so they will never be found, by you, by anyone, not the devil, not even God, for He has promised to remember them no more. Heb 8:12.

And Jesus lives forever to make intercession for us (Heb 7:25) as our great High Priest — eternally so no new ones can be added in the future. Pretty powerful what Jesus did for us at Calvary, isn’t it?

When the God of all creation, the Almighty God, the One who sits on THE throne in heaven, the Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end, takes a look at you – or me – what does He see? His child. His son. His daughter. See His arms extended and welcoming you? See His face, smiling with joy as He beholds you? It’s true.

And at Hank’s Place I’m hoping these truths become more self-evident. They are in His word; I’m not making this up.

The devil’s big weapons are accusation, rejection, fear of rejection, and fear of death. From childhood we learned about accusation. Something happened – and an adult comes on the scene demanding to know who did it or who started it – and we may find ourselves the accused even if we had no part in it – happen to you? It’s happened to every child. And what child has not been left out, rejected from the team, the gang, the group, the ‘in’ crowd – it’s happened to all of us. Not pretty, and lengths we would go to in order to be accepted, right? How about fear of death? The lies we told to avoid a beating – or things we did, or didn’t do for fear of punishment? It has happened to all of us.

But NOW, IN CHRIST JESUS, we have been set free from condemnation. Ro 8:1. Set free from accusation. Set free from bondage to this body of flesh and principles the world lives under. Translated into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (Col 1:13) where there is LIFE and LIGHT, Gladness and JOY in the Holy Spirit.

My friend, whatever your burdens today, LOOK UP – REMEMBER Jesus your Savior, Almighty God your Father, approving of you. Supporting you. Remember the defeat of the devil at Calvary, a done deal. Col 2:15. Yes, remember — now, throw those grave clothes away, the way blind Bartimaeus did with his beggar cloak (Mk 10:50) when Jesus called him. Walk in the Spirit, walk in the kingdom you were destined for, by faith — and COME ALIVE!

Newness of LIFE – 363

https://youtu.be/bpPzVROqYFc

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

We have often shared why the New Covenant is SO much better than the Old. We’ve made clear the Old is but a shadow, a faint reflection of what was to come. It’s focus was the LAW and keeping it. Do good and be rewarded kind of spirit, just like the world today. But the Law cannot make anyone righteous, and that’s what we need to stand before GOD ALMIGHTY.

Romans 3:20 says, “by the works of the Law none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes knowledge of sin.” In other words, the more a person strains to do the right thing, seeking approval in God’s sight, straining to walk right and keep walking right, the more that person becomes aware of their limitations, shortcomings, and failures. The Law provides… not life — but condemnation.

Thankfully Romans 3 continues! “But now APART from the Law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but it is the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; without distinction.”

Verses 24 & 28 say, “being justified as a GIFT by His GRACE through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus…” and, “we maintain that a person is JUSTIFIED BY FAITH apart from works .…” – performance.

Now that we are Christians, it’s not about keeping all the rules. To take our eyes off of Jesus and look to the Law is, as John Sheasby has said, like kissing the photograph of your wife when she is standing right there beside you.

In Romans 7:6 Paul declares we have been released from the Law by identifying with Jesus and His death so that NOW we can serve in newness of the SPIRIT and not in oldness of the letter. THAT’S powerful good news!

Romans 8:4 urges us to walk according to the Spirit – to HIS voice within us. That’s LIFE! But if we set our mind on the flesh, thinking of the how WE can keep the Laws for righteousness, well, that way is DEATH. So let’s choose, as vs 6 says, to set our minds on the Spirit, which is life and peace.

Today — let us walk in the righteousness we have by faith in Jesus. This free gift of God, this eternal life in Christ Jesus, is the stumbling stone. FREE GIFT. Believe. Let us not take life’s matters into our own hands to work out and prove OUR self-righteousness. Humbly, let’s RECEIVE. And we — will COME ALIVE!

Lifted – 362

https://youtu.be/FCJSs5ORg-w

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

Jesus gave us a parable at the start of Luke 18 to show that at all times we should pray and NOT LOSE HEART! You are familiar with it, I’m sure. Of the widow before the unrighteous judge, who, through her importuning, so wore out the wicked judge that he determined to execute justice on her behalf.

Versus :6-8 say, “And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge said; now, will God not bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long for them? I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”

The night of the elections last November I felt so confident of victory for our beloved President DJT. What a shock the next morning brought! And those many reports of inconsistencies, irregularities, of tampering. Serious crimes. How could this be, especially as JB himself was quoted as saying, “The fix is in.”

Surely I thought, our God of all righteousness would make things right — and quickly. For as Romans 1:18 says, “For the wrath of God IS revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” And Romans 12:19, referring to Deuteronomy 32:35, “Vengeance is Mine, I WILL repay,” says the Lord.”

Let’s believe His word my friend. Don’t lose heart. God WILL act righteously! Keep praying, right up to Jesus’ return!

One more thing – about prayers for yourself, family, others, situations, circumstances, living — whatever. Prayers still not answered. Perhaps our prayers are limited by what we can see, what we can think of, how we think God may move or what God can do. When the God of the IMPOSSIBLE (Luke 1:37), the God who delights to do what eye has not seen nor has ear heard nor has entered the heart of man (1 Corinthians 2:9), the God who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20) is seeking in the delay, to lift our vision higher, lift our faith higher, that His doing be greater — out of His great love for us — His mercies — His grace — His lovingkindness — and that He get the glory and not have it attributed to a lucky break, or happenstance, or coincidence.

Get the picture? God is able to do MORE than our present prayer. Let’s not faint, let’s keep praying for righteousness, praying those impossible prayers. And let’s allow the Spirit to lift our eyes and make those prayers more impossible — we’ll COME ALIVE!

Wrong Conclusions – 361

https://youtu.be/qQYsFl2NLQo

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

Jesus’ words in John 7:24 “Do not judge by the outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment” are applicable today. Back then, Jesus was going about doing good, healing all those bound by the devil – Acts 10:38. Every day. Including the Sabbath. For the Pharisees, the Sabbath was of extreme importance – and its observation. They created so many rules regarding the Sabbath; why, a man was a Sabbath breaker if he spit on the ground because the spittle might form a little mud ball, and that was work!

Don’t you find it amazing that the Pharisees were having trouble with that Jesus fellow? He was fulfilling over 300 Old Testament prophecies before their eyes. But their eyes were blinded. They couldn’t see Jesus as the Messiah for the traditions. Although putting on a great religious pretense, they were in love with the world  — its lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, the boastful pride of life — none of it from the Father. 1 John 2:16. Their love of the world’s ways blinded them to the truth.

And their blind conclusion: Jesus had to die. Thank GOD for His plan that succeeded regardless of the depravity of mankind! How great is our GOD and marvelous His ways!

There are insanely wrong conclusions being spouted about in politics and media today. Don’t just believe them — do not judge by the outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

Wrong conclusions are easily made. A comedian once pointed out that statistics clearly showed that fully 1/3 of all fatal car crashes were caused by drunk drivers. That meant fully 2/3’s of fatal car crashes were caused by sober people. Thus it was obvious that drunk drivers should be applauded and awarded and sober drivers given citations and pulled off the road. Right?

Here’s another. At the start of WWI, English soldiers wore leather helmets. In examining those brought off the battlefield with head wounds, it was thought that changing to a metal helmet might save more lives. In an experiment, metal helmets were issued to a number of soldiers. To their horror, they found that the number of soldiers coming off the field with head injuries greatly increased! It was obvious metal helmets were not a help at all. Then some bright soul realized that people who otherwise would have died on the battlefield, were now alive and making it to the field hospitals. Metal helmets were saving lives. Just the opposite of the initial conclusion.

Today, sort through the mess of media misinformation by asking Jesus for true wisdom and understanding. Then apply righteous judgement. If you feel fear trying to grab ahold of you, REJECT it, for Jesus says FEAR NOT, have FAITH in God. Fear is a huge weapon of the enemy. Heb 2:15 says the fear of death is what puts people into slavery to Satan.

FEAR NOT, have FAITH in GOD, judge with righteous judgement, and COME ALIVE!

His Grace – or Your Performance? – 360

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

At Hank’s Place we live by God’s abundant grace – it is abundant toward ALL believers, thanks to JESUS! His grace is far better than living by the world’s standards and principles, believe me!

As we know, the world operates on the principle of good work yields reward; bad work yields punishment. Think of people in professional sports – work harder than the next guy, train harder, smarter, and get the bucks. Even people who cheat or steal – view their cheating and stealing as better cheating, better stealing than the other guy – and they work so hard for it.

Here’s Ephesians 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.”

The first few decades as a Christian, my mind was still awash with worldly thinking – not evil thinking, but believing God operated on reward and punishment like the world, and I struggled to “get it right.” I bet you know of many Christians today who refer to God’s love, blessings and favor as dependent on their obedience – obedience to exactly what, I ask. They always dwell in the land of doubt, uncertainly, and ‘maybe I could do more’ kind of thinking.

When I would read those verses in Ephesians, I would think, “Well, those are spiritual blessings, in heaven, so I don’t get any of those now in the present life.” And then that part of His choosing us to be holy and blameless before Him was a big “Ouch!” “He chose me, so now I have to do everything right, be holy all the time, really work at being blameless in all things,” I thought. What a burden I carried, laboring so hard because I did not understand the grace of God, that unmerited, undeserved favor and blessings, that come, by definition, out of God’s nature, His disposition toward us and not my performance. He who began the good work in us will complete it – Philippians 1:6 – we’ll wind up totally holy and blameless because it’s God’s will, and our destiny: God’s power at work in us, transforming us – whooo-hooo! Just go along with the Spirit, reckoning the old man dead. OK?

Remember, all the promises of God are YES and AMEN – but can only come to pass in one’s life by faith. Believe that God IS, and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6.

Rewarder of the seekers, not the performers. Rewarder of those who have faith in Him, not those who come out on top of the rat race of life. Friend, He has chosen you, and is making you totally holy and blameless before the Father. And rewarding you in the here and now. And that’s the way it is, and that’s the end result. So cast off any cares today – receive the blessings that God has for you today, by grace, and COME ALIVE!

Remembering 9/11 today – 359

https://youtu.be/09V-MNDh8tU

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

Despite the efforts of the media, it’s all right to be a patriot. In fact, it’s commendable. Especially as we remember the horrific attack upon the United States 20 years ago. It’s time to re-embrace our nation’s pledge of allegiance.

The pledge expresses allegiance to the flag of the United States and the Republic of the United States of America. Such a pledge was first composed by Captain George Thatcher Balch, a Union Army Officer during the Civil War and later a teacher of patriotism in New York City schools.

“We give our heads and hearts to God and our country; one country, one language, one flag.”

Balch was a proponent of teaching children, especially those of immigrants, loyalty to the United States. Totally awesome!

His pledge was revised by Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister, in 1892, to say, “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Bellamy said, “At the beginning of the nineties (that’s the 1890’s) patriotism and national feeling was at a low ebb. The patriotic ardor of the Civil War was an old story. The time was ripe for a reawakening of simple Americanism and the leaders in the new movement rightly felt that patriotic education should begin in the public schools.”

“The true reason for allegiance to the flag is the Republic for which it stands,” Bellamy stated. He then reflected on the sayings of Revolutionary and Civil War figures, and concluded “all that pictured struggle reduced itself to three words, one Nation indivisible.”

It was first published for a National Public School celebration of Columbus Day, by James Upham who has been quoted as saying, “If I can instill into the minds of our American youth a love for their country and the principles on which it was founded, and create in them an ambition to carry on with the ideals which the early founders wrote into The Constitution, I shall not have lived in vain.”

But what about “Under God” you ask? During the Cold War era, many Americans wanted to distinguish the United States from the atheism promoted by Marxist-Leninist countries. Sound familiar? Louis Albert Bowman, an attorney from Illinois, was the first to suggest the addition of “under God” to the pledge. He was chaplain of the Illinois Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He said that the words came from the Gettysburg Address, where Lincoln said, “that the nation shall, under God, have a new birth of freedom.”

“Under God” was officially adopted in 1954 following a sermon by pastor George MacPherson Docherty of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (that was Abraham Lincoln’s church) based on the Gettysburg Address, entitled “A New Birth of Freedom.” He argued that the nation’s might lay not in arms but rather in its spirit and higher purpose. He noted that the Pledge’s sentiments could be those of any nation: “There was something missing in the pledge, and that which was missing was the characteristic and definitive factor in the American way of life.” He then cited Lincoln’s words “under God” as the defining words that set the United States apart from other nations.

Following its adoption, President Eisenhower said: “From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty…. In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource, in peace or in war.”

Is it any wonder God DOES have His hand upon America and will rescue her?! This special day, as an American, a patriot, recite the pledge of allegiance, honor God — and COME ALIVE!

Find Your Rest – 358

https://youtu.be/Gga4NrbfNLo

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

At Hank’s Place we LIVE LIFE — by God’s grace – which is abundant toward us, thanks to JESUS! So much better than trying to EARN it, don’t you agree?

God’s grace. We experience God’s grace because God IS gracious. In Exodus 34:6, when God is showing Himself to Moses, we read “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Gracious is used here as an adjective describing God. Grace is one of His attributes.

In its verb form, it means to be considerate, to show favor. That God is gracious would mean that He is favorably inclined toward us. That He wants to show favor toward us. To do what is best for us. Always.

God IS gracious. It is not something that He puts on and takes off depending on the situation. He is always gracious. He does not decide to show us grace. Grace is WHO HE IS. Because He is gracious, He demonstrates grace in everything He does.

Grace is also what God DOES because He is gracious. Every action of God toward us involves His grace. His creation, His divine providence, His working in the heart of a sinner, His gift of salvation, His dwelling within and equipping of the saints, and the future He has prepared for us. All of these are due to God’s grace.

His grace is abundant toward us because, in case you hadn’t noticed, we are living in the GRACE side of Calvary, under the NEW COVENANT.  A covenant is something where 2 parties enter into an agreement, a contract. One promises to do such and such, and the other has their part of the agreement to uphold.  It is serious. In the old days, a person could kill the other person in the covenant if they broke the terms. Under the Old Covenant, Israel could not uphold their part. Many died. Generations perished!

Under this NEW covenant, something amazing has taken place. Jesus identified with us. He called Himself the Son of Man. HE kept, keeps eternally actually, the requirements of our part in this new covenant. It’s between God and God — and therefore CANNOT be broken. By faith we enter it. We enter His rest, resting from our works, works that are fruitless, really. This is truly Amazing Grace, dear friend, for it is UNCONDITIONAL toward us — we believe it — and receive it.

Today, find your rest in Jesus dear friend, the source of eternal salvation. Yes. Find your rest in Jesus, our eternal high priest of the good things to come. Hebrews 5:9 and 6:20.

Receive His grace, discover that rest, start receiving those good things to come NOW — you’ll COME ALIVE!

Speak – 357

https://youtu.be/ejaByzfcHH0

Welcome to Hank’s Place —

It’s August 2021 and the world may be experiencing those birth pangs Jesus spoke of. Mark 13:8. Tumultuous things happening.

“Where is God?” you might be asking. Well, remember Psalms 46. It begins, “God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth shakes and the mountains slip into the heart of the sea.” The Psalm ends, “Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth. The Lord of armies is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.” The Message says, “the God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.”

God IS with the believer, although people may perish on our left and right, be struck by COVID plagues; whatever, it shall not approach us. God’s PROMISE. Psalm 91:6-7.

What it takes on our part is — to BELIEVE this promise, believe ALL God’s promises! I faced this challenge of believing in a small way, just this week. I had just purchased a new iMac M1 – golden yellow – what a beauty. I was trading in my old Intel iMac; Apple indicated they would give me over $900 for it; a good deal.

So I shipped all 30 pounds of it to Apple – they checked it in — and revised the trade-in value downward: ZERO dollars; a cracked screen they said. My heart sank – it was perfect when I had packed it off.

I picked up my heart and I shouted, “I don’t receive this bad report in Jesus’ name!” Must have said it several times. I reminded God I was His son, adopted, and lived in His kingdom, not in the darkness. Mary came in the room, heard the bad news and said, “I don’t receive this report either! God, DO something!”

I called Apple, explained the situation and a nice person said they would initiate a shipping inquiry that should take about 3 days. I went back to work. A short time later I heard a whisper. “I’ve given Mary a word for you.” Before I could go and ask her what God had spoken to her, she came in my office and said, “Don’t worry, God’s got this all taken care of. So relax.”

As you might imagine I struggled to relax! The fight of faith versus tendency to panic. I had no proof the computer was undamaged. I only had (drumroll) — Almighty God…. Time passed.

About 2 hours later I get an email from Apple. It read, “Good news. Your trade-in is complete. Thanks for using Apple Trade In. Everything checks out, so we are issuing you a refund in the amount of $910.00.” I began whooping and shouting and thanking our Lord Jesus with tears streaming down my face. Fast work by the Almighty, right?

Then I heard another whispered, “Well, you gave ME something to work with.” Did you hear that my friend? Do you get it? God is on OUR side. He WANTS to help us, protect us, deliver us, be gracious to us. Let’s believe His promises and with our mouths let’s give Him something to work with!

The world may be falling apart. BUT — the God of the Angel Armies, the God of the Impossible, the ALMIGHTY, is OUR GOD. Paul, in 2 Corinthians 4:13 says, “But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written: “I believed, therefore I spoke,” we also believe, therefore we also speak.” So speak — and COME ALIVE!
